School asks donors to help buy discount playground equipment

posted 2/20/11 by Pelican Paulie

PA’s Colegio (private school) has been offered an “incredible” discount on two playground sets by a national supplier, one play set geared towards older children (3 – 9 years of age)

and the other to younger children (babies to 4 years of age). are made of wood that comes with a lifetime guarantee and can be installed immediately.

For those who are not aware, the school is open to the community 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.  It has a “no fence” policy that allows the community toenjoy all of its facilities at no charge including “our library stocked with over 10,000 books, our soccer field, our regulation size basketball court, playground equipped with swings, slides and playhouse as well as the tranquil palapa garden,” says Gabi Kozalj, director general.

After many years of use, Sra. Kozalj says  the playground equipment needs to be replaced.  “Unfortunately, the school has a limited budget and has only one third of the total cost available to invest.  The total cost, after the discount, is$100,000 pesos.  We would like to make a call out to all of the families and our community who have enjoyed the use of our facilities tohelp us replace our original playgroundwhich has been in use for almost ten years, to help us reach our goal and have the new play sets installed by the end of the month.”

She said families here have enjoyed the facilities for many years given that its offerings appeal to all ages of all family members.  “It is not usual to find a friendly soccer or basketball game in session, or lessons/classes offered by community members, and of course, our biggest attraction for our children under the age of 10, our playground.  And on weekends, birthday parties are in demand, taking advantage of the birthday packages we offer at a small cost.”

Given that the bathrooms are open 24 hours a day, stocked with toilet paper and soap, lighting in most areas, and staff on the school premises until 10 pm, the community feels comfortable and safe during the week and on weekends.

“Families and community members who wish to help us with our campaign, are asked to stop by the school for more information or to leave their donation at the school office. It gives us great pleasure to see families spending  time together during the week and on weekends and finding an activity that  suits each family member at our school, Mom reading a great book from our library, dad playing “21” with his boys, and the younger ones letting their imagination go on our swings, slides and adventure clubhouses!  And our cafeteria food is delicious!  We hope to be able to continue this opportunity for all,” Sra. Kozelj said.

The school currently has 267 pupils and students from early childhood through high school and 54 full- and part-time employees.

More information available by calling the school office at (984) 873 5141.
